During the early 1900s, a young Vincenzo Parisi was sent away by his family from a swamped malaria-infested Puglia in search of better opportunities that were not present at the time in Italy’s poor rural southern provinces. Unlike many who chased the American dream, his journey began working as a cobbler in Genoa. It was then when he made his first and only pair of leather shoes. A pair that lasted until his final days. Thanks to maintenance procedures, the shoes kept changing and looked nothing like the pair when he first put them on. However, it’s soul remained intact.

Inspired by Vincenzo’s only pair of hand-crafted leather shoes and taking a step towards the future, Cuoium is a fragrance that shows love and respect to the legacy of leather. A vision of a modern world that kept in touch with its pagan traditions — treasuring origins and allowing for mystery to play a part in one’s life.

This fragrance is an homage to the courage and willpower to move on, to repair instead of replace, and to take care of heritage.

All Orto Parisi fragrances are hidden in a box that opens up into a metropolis and reveals an infinite hole of the center. Cuoium floats in a glass flask with a rusted metal cap with an original inlaid logo made from vegetable tanned leather. Labeled by ‘savile row tweed paper’ with a very fine herringbone structure. This is the first Orto Parisi perfume with a removable and reusable leather sleeve.

Two notes present in every fragrance are ‘PISSE DE CHEVAL’ and ‘BOYA BUTTER’.
Boya butter is the butter of precious agarwood, which is formed in the heartwood of aquilaria trees when they become infected by certain type of mould. Prior the infection the heartwood is odourless, light and pale, while after the infection it becomes dark and starts producing a very aromatic resin called agar, also known as oud. First-grade agarwood is one of the most expensive natural raw materials in the world. The odour of agarwood is complex and enchanting with almost no existing analogues. 
So-called ‘pisse de cheval’ is p-Cresol, an organic compound that is produced by bacterial fermentation of protein in the human bodies and is excreted in the feces and urine. It is also a constituent of tobacco smoke and a component of human sweat that is attractive to female mosquitoes. In the collection of Orto Parisi, p-Cresol plays a part by creating repulsive and attractive notes, since it is a major component in pig odor and a present odor during musth in male elephants. This compound is one of the very few that plays the role in attracting the orchid bee and has been widely used to capture and study the species. An off-putting captive that awakens the hidden smell of the soul. These very well-hidden, two base elements in use represent the contradictory of attraction and repulsion in a balanced combination with other raw materials.
