Hydrated silica acts as a gentle abrasive to help to remove plaque and other particles from your teeth when brushing. Besides aiding in the removal of plaque and food particles, abrasives like hydrated silica can also help to remove stains, which makes them useful as whitening agents in toothpastes as well. In addition to removing particles and minimizing stains on teeth, hydrated silica can also act as a thickening agent to help form the toothpaste's consistency. Mineralised hydroxyapatite is a non-toxic and biocompatible alternative to flouride that provides proactive care for sensitive teeth. In fact, studies show that hydroxyapatite toothpaste is just as good, with the added benefit of helping with dental hypersensitivity. It is a form of calcium that makes up 97% of your enamel and nearly 70% of your tooth dentin. Hydroxyapatite is absorbed by the teeth and fills the enamel fissures caused by demineralization. This leads to benefits such as reduced tooth sensitivity and pain relief, less risk of cavities as well as remineralized and repaired teeth. In comparison to fluoride, hydroxyapatite works by remineralizing enamel from within, reaching the innermost part of a dental cavity, and bonding to proteins such as bacteria when brushing your teeth, tackling plaque. Sodium bicarbonate has low abrasivity, while effectively removing plaque biofilm, decreasing incidence of bleeding and inflamed gingiva, and effectively whitening teeth, especially stains caused by food and drink. It penetrates the plaque layer, disrupting the sticky polysaccharide matrix and loosening the structural integrity of the biofilm, enhancing the physical removal of plaque. The natural amino acid betaine moisturizes and nourishes while anti-inflammatory limonene from citrus fruit and antioxidant edelweiss extract boosts bacterial balance and maintains healthy gums.
