Long nights in the bars of a big city – soft music in the background and conversations deeper than they've been in ages. Coat Check is inspired by those evenings that last longer than they should and leave a lasting impression. The scent opens with the licorice-like spice of star anise. At its heart, it turns warm: rich cacao notes meet the tart brightness of blackcurrant and cherry. Anchored by a base of tobacco, the composition takes on a smoky, subtly leathery depth. A fragrance that proves natural perfumes can be dark and undeniably seductive.
Coat Check was previously known as Black Anis. While the fragrance has been refined, it stays true to its signature notes. The only new addition is cherry, which introduces a tangy twist and adds a fresh layer of intrigue to the scent.
Abel’s fragrances now appear in a new, elegant, and refined flacon. And inside? Even more intense and long-lasting. With the reformulated compositions, the scents feel subtly evolved without straying from their signature character. True to Abel’s philosophy, every ingredient remains 100% natural in origin.

Is there a sample available for every fragrance?
Yes – we offer a sample of every fragrance in our range, as long as it’s not sold out. If you’d like to explore a whole brand, our Discovery Sets usually bring together some of its most important fragrances in one set.
Is the fragrance in the sample the same as in the original bottle?
Our fragrance samples are decants of 100% original perfumes. Each fragrance is carefully filled directly from the brand’s original bottle into a convenient spray vial. So you’re testing the exact same fragrance you’ll find in the full-size bottle.
How many ml are in each sample?
Each sample you order from us contains at least 1.5ml of fragrance. The glass vial itself holds 3ml, which is why it won’t be filled all the way to the top. So no worries – your 1.5ml are definitely in there.
Why are my fragrance samples filled to different levels?
Since we fill every sample by hand, the fill level may vary slightly from one vial to another. From time to time, we also include a complimentary fragrance sample with your order. These are meant as a little extra to discover something new and therefore contain slightly less than our regular 1.5 mlsamples.
Are the fragrance name and ingredients listed on the sample?
The fragrance name and brand are listed on every sample. If you’d like to learn more about the ingredients, you can find them on the relevant product page in our online shop or on your invoice.
