Byredo was founded in 2006 by Ben Gorham in Stockholm, with the aim of translating the feeling of memories and emotions into the form of an everyday product. As the son of an Indian mother and a Canadian father, Ben grew up in Toronto, New York, and Stockholm. He graduated from the Stockholm School of Arts with a degree in Fine Arts, but a chance encounter with the perfumer Pierre Wulff convinced him that he would rather create scents than paintings.  As an outsider in the beauty industry, he is a certain anomaly and has carved out a unique position in the market for his personal style and connection to fashion and art. In contrast to the typically Scandinavian aesthetic, Byredo clearly carries ethnic influences from Ben's Indian background with a strong attachment to creativity, art, and lifestyle.
