The scent of sandalwood, with its mysterious, profound sweetness that transports you to another world, dissolves tensions and allows for reflection on the self.

Born from the idea of incense sticks that can be lit like a match, and from the collaboration of two traditional Japanese crafts: the making of incense sticks and the production of matches, these 10-minute scents are perfect when you need a moment to yourself to recover and regenerate. With the Japanese series, hibi transforms every ordinary day into a journey to the Far East. These scents form a collection that celebrates traditional Japanese incense. Although they are not necessarily scents that are exclusively native to Japan, they do represent ingredients that are commonly used and loved in traditional Japanese incense. Included are 30 matches along with a non-flammable mat, allowing you to enjoy the incense almost anywhere with ease. Since Japanese incense is usually very brittle, a clever solution had to be found for these incense sticks, which can be lit like a match without a lighter. Thus, a precise formula of incense and washi pulp was developed: an aromatic product with solid and fragrant properties that does not break when lit like a match. The name Hibi, which means "day by day" or "daily" in Japanese, was given in the hope that one would have Hibi incense sticks around every day and can freely enjoy their scent, depending on the mood of the day or the occasion.

How to use

Pull the perforated part of the foil sideways to the left and right to open the package. Press the tip of a Hibi stick at a 45 degree angle against the brown rough surface on the side of the box (the lighting side) and stroke it diagonally downwards to light it. Hold the match in the middle or it may break. Once the match is lit, hold it at a slight downward angle until the flame has spread to the incense stick and the flame extinguishes itself. If you hastily extinguish the flame before it settles, the fire will not be able to spread to the incense stick. The smell of the match may also affect the initial fragrance of the incense stick, as the ignition material in the match head is not completely burned out. (However, after a while the smell of the incense will return to normal.) Place the Hibi stick on the included mat and enjoy the scent for about 10 minutes. Since the mat and storage compartment are heat resistant, the stick can be placed almost anywhere. If there are concerns, the stick can be placed on the sliding lid of the box for safety. Do not leave the area until the stick has burned out. Do not allow more than one stick to burn on the mat at a time. After using the stick, lift the mat together with the stick and discard the resulting ash. Using another Hibi stick on the mat with the remaining ash can cause the scents to mix, distorting the actual scent of the Hibi stick.

Be careful of fire. The stick should only be placed on the fireproof surface when it is certain that the flame has already gone out and the fire has already spread to the incense part. The stick is not edible and should be kept away from small children.
Do not store in hot or humid places.

Fragrances that enrich the day - the incense of Awaji Island and the matches from Harima: These two traditional industries of Hyogo Prefecture first came together in 2011. The collaboration between the incense company Daihatsu and the match manufacturer Kobe Match Corporation began with the idea of an incense that can be lit like a match, hoping to save two stagnating industries. What followed was three and a half years of trial and error. The result: a perfectly balanced mixture of Japanese paper, incense, and temperature that makes the stick more flammable and resilient. In the Harima region of Awaji, incense has been produced for almost one hundred and fifty years. The westerly winds blowing over Awaji Island provide the perfect temperature for drying the incense, and each of the fragrances comes from herbs grown by a local incense manufacturer using traditional methods. The technique of match production was introduced to Japan from Europe at the beginning of the Meiji era (1868-1912). In Himeji, the grandfather of Masashi Sagayama (co-founder of hibi) founded the Kobe Match Corporation in 1929, a company that has now existed for three generations. Unfortunately, the act of lighting matches, which used to be part of everyday life, has gradually disappeared with the introduction of inexpensive lighters, leading to the idea for a new type of match. ""Matches do not have to play the leading role. "However, we want to pass on the roots and tradition of our matches." With this thought in mind, hibi has strived to enrich people's lives through collaboration with Japanese craftsmanship and culture. The name hibi was chosen with the hope that it can be carried every day and its fragrance enjoyed freely, fitting the mood of the day or the occasion. The logo is a combination of two adjacent Chinese characters "日" (day). Hibi hopes to become synonymous with simple and cool incense both in Japan and abroad, and to instill a sense of pride and dreams in those working in the traditional industry - a connection between Japan and the world through the spirit of enjoying fragrances.
