San Pedro is inspired by the surreal and unforgiving landscape of Joshua Tree National Park, where two distinct desert ecosystems meet: the Mojave and the Colorado Desert. The harsh, relentless conditions of a desert create life unlike anywhere else – towering cacti sculpted by storms and strong winds that produce the most delicate, soft flowers. Freezing nights with clear skies full of stars, planets and meteorites accompanied by the crackling of a bonfire. Barren and harsh, yet delicate and intentional. Everything belongs and has its purpose.
Capturing this untamed spirit, San Pedro opens with a citrusy, minty and cool burst that is then soothed by a floral, sparkling and green heart of litsea cubeba, green cactus and velvety peach skins. Now in full swing, vetiver, cashmere wood and violet come into play to add an earthy, calming and powdery quality.
A fragrance journey through the rugged terrain of Joshua Tree National Park, showcasing its true beauty and fascinating flora.

Top Notes: Italian Lemon, Italian Bergamot, Citrata Mint
Heart Notes: Litsea Cubeba (from laurel family), Peach Skin, Green Cactus
Base Notes: Cashmere Wood, Vetiver, Violet, White Musk

Behind the Fragrance

Johan Bergelin: “During the years I have always found the beauty of Joshua Tree National Park and Twentynine Palms mind-blowing. The surreal features of succulents, all sculpted by storms, strong winds, and occasional torrents of rain. Bristle cactus plants that in contrast produce the most delicate and soft flowers. With many of them being psychoactive, the fragrance is also a testimonial to Laurel Canyon: the home of countless parties and LA rock musicians during the experimental era of the late 1960s and 1970s.”

San Pedro Fragrance Journey

Catherine liked high places. High up on the hills. The yurt was located in Laurel Canyon. It was a circular tent and covered in beige felt. Having harvested cacti the previous day at her friend’s land, close to Joshua National Park, the preparation was now in full swing. First the spines were removed using the tip of a small knife. Then the translucent skin was peeled off to make the wet, dark green flesh appear. The holy grail. Hours later the brew stood ready in a cauldron of cast iron. The small gathering of friends sat in a small circle on large embroidered cushions and pillows while the leader of the ceremony poured the liquid in tea bowls.
And to listen to the wind blow.
The brew was like drinking bitter earth. And then. Everything moving, the colors so vivid. A magical and enchanted land, so intense. She went out and laid down on the ground. One moment Catherine felt she had enough, and the next moment she surrendered. Wind chimes of bamboo created a subtle, soothing noise together with the leaves from the surrounding trees. The bonfire crackled and she gazed at the clear sky of planets, stars, asteroids and comets.
The beauty of the desert all came back to her. Joshua Trees reaching up towards the sky in prayer. The dusty, earthy aroma and the sweetness of rain. Untouched nature sculptured by relentless sun and strong winds. It all now started to make sense and have a meaning.

19-69 Nineteen Sixtynine

The perfume cult brand 19-69 was founded by Swedish artist and product developer Johan Bergelin.  A twenty-four-month creative process with artisans in Scandinavia, France, and Italy led to the launch of 5 perfumes in 2017. Each fragrance is inspired by a different era, culture, or backdrop from Africa, Europe, the USA, and Asia. Art, music, trends, and cultures have shaped the fragrances in terms of content, name, and packaging. All fragrances are suitable for any gender and allow individuals to discover beauty across borders. Johan Bergelin: "The name of the brand 19-69 is a very strong statement. The year 1969 represents an era of freedom, tolerance, and counterculture. It is also the year I was born and my way of wearing my heart on my sleeve and saying: This is real. This is who I am."
