A full moon hangs bright and white over the city. On the smooth river that runs through it, the colorful reflections of intricate paper dragons and floating lotus blossoms dance across the surface. It’s Mid-Autumn Festival. Red lanterns sway gently in the warm autumn air, casting a soft glow onto the stone paths. Laughter echoes in the streets, faces glow with joy – and a quiet sense of gratitude lingers in the air. A small group of boys weaves through the crowd – they’ve been roaming since morning. At a garden fence, one of them stops and waves goodbye. Warm light spills from the windows of the house beyond. As he opens the door, he’s warmly welcomed: everyone is there. He places his red rubber boots in the corner and nestles into the arms of his parents – warm, soft, safe. The air is filled with a doughy scent, creamy and laced with a sweet hint of honey. On the coffee table, a plate stacked with intricately decorated mooncakes, next to a steaming pot of tea. Only now does he feel how tired he is. With each blink, he sinks deeper into the couch, his eyes growing heavy. And so the day comes to its quiet, comforting close.
