Love is not always shaped by beautiful feelings alone. Relationships end when love fades, and grief arrives quietly in its wake. She leaves, and he is left behind, bewildered, holding questions that no longer have a place to settle. Within him lives a hope for a new beginning, for answers that might still come, like icing sugar on lips that wanted to speak and yet remained silent. The white flowers he gave her stand in the half-light, immaculate and carefully arranged for someone who may never return. The possibility of seeing her again is not yet lost to him; the tension sustains him, keeps him waiting. The gestures of everyday life remain unchanged, her favourite pralines slipping instinctively into the shopping basket, even though he knows she will never receive them. And then he understands. Something darkens and grows heavier within him, tobacco glowing like the thought of words that should have been spoken. A balsamic warmth settles over everything, soft and unyielding at once. It does not smell like an ending – it smells like an encore that never begins. And so the curtain falls.
