A summer like no other – warm nights under starlit skies, a bottle of wine, arms wrapped around each other until the first birdsong, and all those plans for when we’d meet again. But now, everything feels different. Cold. People embrace on the snowy platform, holiday music playing softly in the background. A little child sips hot chocolate, an old man smokes a pipe – and I fight back my tears. Your train pulls into the station with a slow, hissing sigh. As you step off, your gaze drifts through the crowd. Our eyes meet – but the smile doesn’t come. Dressed in gray, you walk toward me and stop a short distance away. I gently take your hand, hoping for a reaction, but your eyes are empty. And slowly, I feel it break.
A tear slides silently down my cheek. I fade out – we still had so much left to say.
